Choosing a new TV?

There are hundreds of TVs available to choose from, wherever it’s a cheap TV for your bedroom or study or kitchen to a large screen that gives you a cinema-like experience in your living room.

While it is great to have such a level of choice, knowing what exactly you want will help make the decision a lot simpler. Our guide is designed to help you choose the right TV for you.

What size TV do you need?

Deciding on the size of your new TV is the easiest step for most people. The size in general depends on the space you have available or simply your personal preference. When choosing the perfect size of your screen you can base this on how far you’ll sit from the TV.

There is a choice of curved and flat screen on the market which again is down to your personal preference.

Here is a quick guide on size to help you:

Being to close may be uncomfortable but you do want to be close enough to have a really good view. It’s like choosing the perfect seat at the cinema.

It is suggested that you sit a distance that is 1.5 times the diagonal size of your screen; with this you insure that you see the extra detail available in FULL HD pictures.

What Types of TV Displays are there?

Plasma TVs

Plasma display panels (PDPs) perform best in dark or low lit rooms and offer a wider viewing angel than most TVs. Plasma TVs are very good in displaying fast-moving action with minimal blurring.

OLED TVs

OLED (organic light-emitting Diode) are brighter, more efficient, thinner and feature a better refresh rate and contrast than the other TV’s. OLED TVs deliver a brilliant range of colours as each of the pixels is individually illuminated. These screens are extraordinarily thin making it easy to place them in your home.

LED TVs

LED (light-emitting diode) deliver excellent overall picture quality. LED TVs are very popular because they are a good choice for all lighting conditions, predominantly in very well lit rooms and are also known as part of the LCD TV family, with the LEDs giving advanced edge - lighting or back-lighting. These TV’s often have a very thin design making it easier to place them. Good choice to buy.

LCD TVs

LCD (liquid-crystal display) produce bright colours and offer quality HD performance overall. Almost all are back-lit by CCFLs (Cold cathode florescence lamps) and while not as thin designed as LED models they still have a thin profile.

Picture Quality – 4K Ultra HD or HD?

This choice is all about the resolution so basically the picture quality of your new TV. A Full HD resolution provides images packed with immerse detail, while 4k Ultra HD can boast the resolution of FULL HD up to four times, so you can enjoy amazing images.

2160p (4K Ultra HD)

4K Ultra HD offers the newest resolution available on the market right now. This level of resolution makes it possible for you to sit quite close to the screen and will give you an immersive experience.

2160p (4K Ultra HD)

Full HD content and all TV programming are at the highest level of detail and will let you watch Blue-ray movies. This is by far the most common HDTV resolution available.

2160p (4K Ultra HD)

HD provides quality pictures for any TV shows and DVD movies. This is often very affordable and in generally used for smaller TVs.

What should my TV be able to do?

Smart TV

This choice is all about the resolution so basically the picture quality of your new TV. A Full HD resolution provides images packed with immerse detail, while 4k Ultra HD can boast the resolution of FULL HD up to four times, so you can enjoy amazing images.

3D TV

With the 3D TV you can enjoy some of the latest 3D blockbuster movies offering you a sense of depth that a standard 2D TV can’t match, but bear in mind that you’ll have to wear glasses to watch it.

4K TV

If you wish to take the step up from the normal high definition TV then the 4K TV with its ultra-high definition picture quality is the next level. These TVs can enhance your TV viewing to new levels giving you four times the detail of HD. Currently you will still struggle to find a lot of content available to watch in 4K Ultra HD but work is being done to make more.
