Food Blender Buying Guide

You want to mix, pureé or emulsify food? We hope that the following guide will help you to make the right decision.

What is a blender?

A blender is a kitchen appliance used to mix, purée, or emulsify food and other substances. A stationary blender consists of a blender jar with a rotating metal blade at the bottom, powered by an electric motor in the base.

What Do You Want To Use Your Blender For?

  • To make non-chunky soups or to crush ice for your perfect drink
  • Fruity smoothies or delicious hummus
  • If you just want to make a cup for yourself or a whole bunch for your friends and family
  • If you want to spend a lot for an all-rounder or if you just want a blender for your needs

What Kind Of Blender Do You Need?

Blender Type

If you have the time and you simply want to use your blender for non-chunky soup or a fruit smoothie and you have plenty of time then a hand blender could be ideal, however, if you want crushed or you want to prepare sauces, purees or other items, and you don't want to spend too much time making this, then a full powered blender is probably what you're looking for.

Blender Capacity

Whether you're looking to prepare meals for your family, a dinner party or just yourself then it's important to make sure that the capacity of your blender suits your requirements.

As a rule of thumb - if you're looking to use your blender for family meals or to prepare meals for several people then you should look at a blender with a minimum of 1.5l or higher. If you simply want a blender to use for yourself then a 1.5l probably isn't necessary but still useful to have should you have guests!

There are of course other elements you need to consider when choosing the right blender for you, including wattage. At least 400 Watts is recommended if you're looking for one that can crush ice and smoothly blend food without any problems.

The cost of a blender tends to reflect it's wattage and blending ability - but that doesn't mean you need to spend excessively to find the right blender for your needs - it all comes down to your personal preference.
